Brunel has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Structural Engineer working for our client who a large mining company. This is a long-term contract role initially working from home with business travel to Arizona.

  • Serve as Structural Engineering subject matter expert (SME) on large/complex engineering and construction projects, including expansions or modifications to existing facilities.
  • Analyze and validate structural designs originating from the contracted EPC, EPCM, and/or Design Consultants and help with troubleshooting problems at operating sites. These structural designs shall be inherent to industrial operations, whether currently ongoing (brownfield) or a completely new facility (greenfield).
  • Obtain calculations produced by the EPC, EPCM, and/or Design Consultant and validate the design outcomes in order to ensure appropriateness of the proposed design.
  • Perform independent structural design, calculations and analysis to check the designs proposed by the consultants.
  • Optimize designs to reduce risk, improve quality and minimize capital costs for the facilities being designed.
  • Participate in project estimate reviews to validate all structural MOT’s to be appropriate as an input to the estimate as the design progresses.
  • Provide input for departmental reports; interacting with other departments and disciplines to accomplish project goals.
  • In performing tasks, individual must adhere to quality standards and procedures.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Structural Engineering or related discipline and ten to fifteen (10-15) years of experience in an engineering consulting firm or owners’ team as a structural specialist.
  • Current PE is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of the principles and practices of structural engineering
  • Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
  • Expertise and knowledge of AutoCAD and other specialized structural design software
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented and have exceptional organizational skills.
  • Must communicate clearly and interact with other departments, operations, and co-workers in a professional and respectful manner along with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Candidate must be willing to travel domestically and internationally depending on project needs.
